> Fully called Śāriputra, translated here as "Son of the Egret." The mother of this person had eyes with clearly distinct black and white, rolling and flowing smoothly; born of her, he took his appellation from his mother; he is also called "Body-Son." He was the disciple at the Buddha's right side. His wisdom and understanding surpassed other men, hence he is called "Great Wisdom." The Ekottarika-āgama says: "Within my Buddhadharma, the one foremost in wisdom beyond peer and in resolving all doubts is Śāriputra."
