> From the preceding three subtle marks, the four coarse marks are brought forth: namely, the mark of intellect, continuity, grasping, and attaching to names. These four constitute the essence of the two obscurations. With false thoughts perfuming internally and objective realms perfuming externally, causes and conditions are fully assembled, and from this they are brought forth; hence it is said, "are brought forth." Defilement, fatigue, creating karma, and receiving retribution, turning in transmigration without end—all stem from this: this is the path of afflictions. Below, the fruition of karma and sentient beings are the latter two coarse marks. The Awakening of Faith states: "Because conditions of objective realms exist, six kinds of marks are further generated." These are the six coarse marks.
