> If there is a saṃgha in a village whose boundaries cannot be known: In the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya: 'If the boundary divisions of a city or village cannot be known, use a bow of five cubits, planting one tree every seven bows; across seven trees of separation, so that the different assemblies can see each other, they do not commit the offense of a separate saṃgha, and each succeeds \[in its karman\].' Calculating according to the markers, seven trees have six intervals, yielding sixty-three paces. This differs from the former explanation of seven intervals yielding seventy-three and a half paces, as resolved and established in the Yichao.
