That day by day karma deepens, and after practicing long their virtue solidifies, is entirely reliant upon this. Recently, the profound teaching has fallen into decline, and the wind of wisdom has ceased to fan. The laity harbor contempt and negligence, while the religious manifest unlawful conduct. All this arises because masters lack the heart to guide and lead, and disciples lack the resolve to follow and practice. The two abandon one another, vainly drifting into degraded states. If one wishes to illuminate the Way, how could that be possible? Therefore, to rescue them from the urgency of hanging upside down, I impart the method of stability and danger. If it is fortunate enough to be respected and practiced, the Dharma will never perish.
