The Daśādhyāya-vinaya states: When a senior monk takes dependence from a junior monk, he receives all offerings just as a junior serves a senior. Only bowing to his feet is excluded; all other services should be performed. The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya states: All provisions are offered, except bowing to the feet and massaging; if the master is ill, massaging is also permitted. One should teach the vinayas of the two divisions, the meanings of the aggregates, realms, bases, twelve links of dependent origination, and so forth. Even if one is a hundred rains old, one should take dependence upon a monk of ten rains who holds the precepts, down to one who knows the vinayas of the two divisions.
