> Second: The intent regarding the lightness and heaviness of formulated teachings. Discerning the two intents of light and heavy is truly difficult. Why is this? Tracing back to the teaching that can be bestowed, the Lord of Teaching is one who exhausts all capacities; again, examining the persons for whom it was made, persons are only vessels suited to the medicine. Thus, medicine and disease correspond to one another, and their beneficial moistening is without fixed measure; how could this be judged by personal sentiment, or fathomed by mere discussion! Even so, repeatedly scrutinizing their far-reaching aim, it truly covers future generations. It is self-evident in the text; why rely on external proofs?
