Four conditions: first, during the extensive recitation of the precepts; second, being in the assembly; third, having the intention not to listen; fourth, when the recitation has passed the five classes, saying, 'I only just heard it,' which concludes the offense. The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya states: "Not listening to each individual precept along the way is a duṣkṛta; not listening to all of them is a pāyattika.
