> Precept Seventy-five: Leaving without giving consent (chanda). Five conditions: first, a legitimate saṃgha affair; second, knowing it; third, not giving chanda; fourth, abruptly departing; fifth, the offense is incurred when both feet leave the doorway. The Pañcavargika-vinaya states: "If having business, give chanda and leave; if not giving chanda, three karmans should be performed. Under a roof, each departure incurs a pāyattika; in the open air, departing one vyāma from the saṃgha incurs a pāyattika. If settling matters in a private room without a karman, each incurs a duṣkṛta." The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya states: "If the saṃgha gathers to explain the Dharma and Vinaya, and one leaves without announcing due to circumstances before the session concludes, it is an unseemly act (duṣkṛta). If leaving to defecate or urinate and returning in an instant without hindering the saṃgha's business, it is not an offense; if suspecting that one will return late, one should announce and give chanda. Even when listening to others read, recite, or receive texts, one must announce it. If paused in the middle to speak other words, it is not an offense." The Pañcavargika-vinaya states: "When settling matters without a karman, if a śrāmaṇera is present and stands up \[to leave\], it is also a duṣkṛta." Exceptions in the Vinaya: leaving having given chanda; or if it is an unlawful proceeding, acting to cause injury or diminution with one's fellow disciples, leaving without giving chanda is permitted.
