> Briefly knowing the counteragents, there are four distinctions: First, one must treat the emotional fault of concealment, which refers to parivāsa. In the semantic translation of this land, it is called either concealment or separate residence. The Vinayamātṛkā states: 'What is called separate residence? Residing separately in one room, not being allowed to stay in the same place with the saṃgha; even though one enters into the saṃgha, one may not converse with them, nor may one answer them.' Second, treating the offense of concealment, which refers to duṣkṛta. This is as explained below regarding the formal repentance (the rite of repentance comes first, and afterwards the karman of parivāsa concealment is granted). Third, treating the emotional fault of the saṃghāvaśeṣa, which refers to mānatva. The treatise states: 'In the language of Qin, it means joy of mind! Although beforehand one was glad at heart, one also generated shame and remorse, and also caused the community of monks to rejoice. Because of the former joy, one is granted a few days; on account of these few days, it first attains the name joy. The community of monks praises him, saying, "Because of this, this person has reformed and repented, no longer gives rise to afflictions, and has become a pure person"; therefore there is joy!' Fourth, treating the offense of saṃghāvaśeṣa, which refers to ābhirhaṇa. In the Sudarśana this is translated as the karman of calling into the assembly, or named uprooting the root of the offense. The Vinayamātṛkā states: 'Pure precepts arise, one attains pure liberation, and because one well upholds them, one rises and departs!'
