> Sixth, following along according to the length of the days of concealment. In the Vinaya, when committing multiple residual offenses, whether one remembers the number or does not remember the number, if one only remembers the length of the number of days, one universally deals with them based on the days of the longest count. If one does not remember the count of days, one deals with them from the time of purity onward, meaning dealing with them from the time of reception at the ordination platform onward. The Daśādhyāya-vinaya states: 'If one does not remember the number of days and months, one should deal with them from the time of receiving the full precepts onward. One must say: "I seek \[parivāsa\] for five years or ten years of concealment since the time of purity"; one may not simply say "I seek \[parivāsa\] since the time of purity."' This is in order to know the full limit. The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya states: 'If one does not remember the nights, one should ask: "Did you commit it when you had zero years \[of seniority\]?" If he remains silent, it is granted according to that year. If he says it was not so, one further asks: "Did you commit it when you had one year, two, three, or four years?" It is granted according to where he remains silent.' The Daśādhyāya-vinaya states: 'Having committed a residual offense through three admonitions amidst the assembly, one immediately proclaims oneself amidst the saṃgha that one has committed a saṃghāvaśeṣa offense; if one does not speak immediately, this is called concealment.' Therefore we know that even though many people know of the offense, it ultimately must be disclosed.
