> Moreover, those who practice \[the penance for\] concealment often do not fulfill the required days. Various masters have established principles, adding mutual agreements and differences. Now I adopt the oral transmission of currently prevalent masters: In this repentance method according to the teaching, weighing the mental actions across both the Mahāyāna and the Hīnayāna, subjection comes first; if one examines the activities of parivāsa, they are extremely earnest and heavy. If we follow the Daśādhyāya-vinaya, if one does not practice parivāsa and proceeds to the six nights' rehabilitation, the Buddha explicitly determined that he incurs an offense yet achieves rehabilitation. Using that to verify this, in principle they must be harmonized. Even so, fearing that the practical matter might not correspond to the Dharma, one would modify the old habit. The officiant of the karman says: “The bhikṣu so-and-so has practiced the days of concealment, and now requests the six nights from the Saṃgha.” The subsequent announcements and karmans must all be modified accordingly. Before requesting the six nights, the sthavira, having assembled the Saṃgha, should announce: “This bhikṣu so-and-so, practicing \[the penance for\] concealment of a saṃghāvaśeṣa, has already passed such-and-such number of days with utmost diligence and hardship. Regarding the such-and-such number of days remaining unpracticed, since he has stated his apology to the Saṃgha and the Saṃgha has now accepted it, the remaining days may be remitted.” Having harmonized the Saṃgha, if the assembly remains silent, the procedure of the six nights should be granted. If he has fulfilled the days of practice, it should be recited according to the Dharma.
