> The Daśādhyāya-vinaya states: The Buddha himself took up woodworking tools to repair a monastery gate. The saṃgha is permitted to keep all woodworking tools. If a monastery is in disrepair, one room may be sold to repair another room, and bedding may also be sold to repair it. When there is damage, the senior elder of the monastery and the senior elder of a private room must first personally undertake miscellaneous tasks with their own hands. Kāśyapa frequently trampled mud to plaster the saṃgha's dwellings (and so forth). A bhikṣu is permitted to fashion the roof timbers himself.
