> In \[the section on\] other schools, the first section has three vinayas. The \*Daśādhyāya-vinaya\*: based on conditions of traveling on the road, proceeding from prohibition to exception, there is one extensive and three abbreviated. Among the abbreviated, the upper is a saṃgha procedure, while the lower two are individual procedures. According to saṃgha procedures versus mental reflection, it is not permitted for many people; it must be performed by dividing the saṃgha across different boundaries, or perhaps in that school the conditions allow an exception, so one cannot raise an objection based on the ordinary path. Allowing mental reflection is because there are further conditions while traveling on the road. Prohibiting it before white-robed laypeople is out of fear of hearing it and obstructing the precepts, which is for the sake of benefiting others; down to conditions of life and pure conduct, which are for the sake of benefiting oneself. If one discusses mental reflection, if the recitation is not distinct, it does not constitute a valid procedure; that an exception is granted due to conditions is not to be wondered at. \*Poṣadha\* and “reciting the precepts” are a redundancy of Sanskrit and Chinese terms, and when confronting the matter, one uses a single term. In the \*Mahīśāsaka-vinaya\*: seven conditions; except for thorns/brambles and muddy ground, the rest are the same as the \*Dharmaguptaka-vinaya\*. The \*Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya\*: five conditions—pressing dusk, cloudy sky, and visiting guests staying far away; these three differ from the \*Dharmaguptaka-vinaya\*.
