> Pointing to the two masters must refer to the two texts of Kai and Yuan (formerly pointed to Kai and \[Dharma\]satya). First, Kai's text. It first sets out the words of the petition: "May the Venerable Saṃgha listen! I, bhikṣu so-and-so, take the procedure exceeding seven days, going outside the boundary for fifteen days or one month, for such-and-such a matter, and will return here to observe the vassa." (Three times spoken.) The jñapti and karmavācanā are the same as in the present Manual. The Commentary states: "The first person added a petition, but the karmavācanā did not recite it, fearing it would become an augmented procedure; this is the ancient karmavācanā." Next, Master Yuan's text, which is now lost. The Commentary states: "The third person (in the preface, chapter four) merely conformed to the six nights, with the petition reciting the conditions and fully chanting the matters (in the announcement procedure for six nights, it first recites the offense committed, next recites the petition to cover and the practice of covering, and finally recites the petition for six nights, being the most exhaustive)." The intended detail of the petition method is the same as Guang's text below; in the jñapti and karmavācanā, it adds only in the fourth sentence: "The saṃgha now grants to bhikṣu so-and-so the procedure exceeding seven days, going outside the boundary for fifteen days or one month, for such-and-such a matter, and returning here to observe the vassa; hence it says 'fully chanting the matters.'" (Master Su said: "That Yuan's text has not a single word added or omitted means that it establishes six conditions conforming to the kaṭhina robe, and is unrelated to the karmavācanā.")
