> Under revealing what is expounded: "saṃgha affairs" refers to monastic karmavācanā transactions involving four or more persons; "accomplishing" means being able to carry out; "using" means putting into practice; "complying" means the intention to uphold and practice; "occasion" refers to what is urgently needed at the time; "relying on matters" refers to conditions such as robes and medicines. From "All..." downward, it concludes by showing there are no deficiencies. "Wen" is pronounced like "wen", meaning disorderly. As traditionally transmitted from ancient times, the three fascicles and three divisions are designated the three practices of community, self, and mutual. Now, dividing them by doctrine, there are briefly three distinctions: first, according to cessation and action: the upper and lower fascicles perform cultivation in relation to affairs, which is called the practice of maintaining through action; the middle fascicle guards the precepts and avoids faults, which is called the practice of maintaining through cessation. Second, according to community and individual: the upper fascicle's saṃgha affairs are community practices; the middle and lower fascicles' self-cultivations are individual practices. Third, according to pure and mixed: the upper and middle fascicles are each restricted to one kind and thus pure; the lower fascicle accords with occasions and is thus mixed. When it comes to their mutual interpenetration, they are not without overlap. These are judged based on their broad outlines, as decided above.
