> In the actual practice, \[the text\] first sets forth the orthodox view. Questioning impediments outside the boundary is explicitly stated in the ordination ritual. “Sitting closely clustered”: the bodies in front, behind, and on both sides are in contiguous contact, not meaning encircling while leaving the center empty. “Ample opening”: ample space to accommodate each other; the Commentary states, “Ten persons interpenetrate and open an interval to receive \[the candidate\].” “Must be half the body”: this mentions a part to illustrate the whole. In the Daśādhyāya-vinaya, one bhikṣu sitting in one place was sufficient for the saṅgha in four places to perform legal acts, which proves that in the present case, half the body constitutes being within the same boundary. It is not yet clear which text in the Samantapāsādikā this refers to. “This is the established meaning”: the Commentary states, “Conducting matters like this internally accords with the Buddha's teachings and externally avoids censure by ordinary people; the saṅgha has the merit of bestowing the Dharma, and the candidate in front has no empty aspiration of receiving \[the precepts\] in vain; this is acceptable.” From “if” onward, the second part condemns the improper act. Zhen means pressing down. Below, it points out that the text of the Meaning Commentary is lost; now seeing the Karma Commentary, the refutations and establishments are quite detailed.
