> Conditions for offense: in the second, the first line marks the condition. "Vinaya..." below explains the marks in three parts: first, explaining the marks of relatives and non-relatives; this Vinaya generally indicates relatives to reveal non-relatives. The Samantapāsādikā makes specific distinctions, first indicating the two types of relatives. "Up to..." omits brothers; sons and grandsons refers to those of maternal uncles and aunts. "All..." below explains the meaning of relative: it is restricted only to those belonging to the two surnames of the father and mother. "Also..." below distinguishes non-relatives. A wife who has gone forth is because her surname is different. The wife of an uncle is also of a different surname. It is not mentioned in the treatise, so it is treated by analogy as identical. Below "Daśādhyāya-vinaya", the second explains the intention of the exception for relatives. "Even giving when having little" means that when a bhikṣuṇī is destitute, the saṅgha still pities and aids her. "How much more..." and so forth means that this is utterly unreasonable. The Vinaya says: "If she is not a relative, one does not deliberate whether it is permissible; if she is a relative, one then deliberates, knowing whether there is anything to take or not to take, and so on." Below "Mahīśāsaka-vinaya", the third distinguishes between pure and defiled relative bhikṣuṇīs. Formulating a duṣkṛta offense is to prevent worldly censure.
