> In the intention behind the formulation: the first intention is as in the origin of the precept, where laypeople ridiculed: "Harming living beings is devoid of the true Dharma"; second, to cultivate compassionate practice; third, to be free of worldly contrivance; fourth, to avoid vexing others. The upper two are for the sake of the laity, and the lower two are for the sake of monastics; both pairs have the functions of producing good and extinguishing evil. The text lacks the conditions of the offense due to an omission in transmission. According to the Commentary, there are five conditions: (1) it is silk floss; (2) begging for it oneself; (3) making a Dharma robe; (4) for oneself; (5) completing it immediately constitutes the offense.
