> In explaining the sixth condition, it first cites the Mahīśāsaka-vinaya to reveal the exception to the limit. In that Vinaya, a woman had a wind disease and died because a bhikṣu did not preach the Dharma for her, hence the exception was made. Next, it cites the Dharmaguptaka-vinaya to show the marks of speech. The words "non-self" and "impermanence" apply throughout the preceding five or six \[words\]. As in saying "form is non-self" up to "consciousness is non-self," and "eye is impermanent" up to "mind is impermanent." Examining the subsequent circumstances of the Vinaya: it merely cites the aggregates and sense bases; or if one preaches other dharmas, this serves as the limit. Afterward, it cites the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya to clarify exceeding the limit. Why is this so? Truly because when facing a woman eye-to-eye, few are able to restrain themselves. Lust stirs within, and forcing instruction upon her becomes vain toil. Therefore, even though it is the noble Dharma, one is not permitted to speak extensively. Such is all ordinary sentiment; worldly matters make this evident.
