> Next, regarding the translation according to meaning, in citing the sūtras: Fully named the Sūtra of Bodhisattva Jñānottara's Questions on Great Skillful Means, it has two fascicles; here the lower fascicle is cited. That the five-strip \[robe\] is said to be "worn in the middle" is because it is innermost. That the seven-strip \[robe\] is "upper" is because it is above the five-strip \[robe\]. Question: The saṃghāṭī is the highest of all; why is it not so named? Answer: If considered with respect to the \[other\] two robes, both are above the five-strip \[robe\]; however, since the saṃghāṭī is used rarely, its name is marked based on its specific \[characteristic\].
