The Tathāgata, the Truly Real One, the Equanimous and Correctly Awakened One, has taught the four pārājika dharmas. If a bhikṣu violates any one dharma, he is no longer a śramaṇa, nor a son of the Śākya. You must not violate sexual conduct in any way, performing impure acts. If a bhikṣu commits impure conduct, indulging in sexual desire, even with an animal, he is no longer a śramaṇa, nor a son of the Śākya. At that time, the World-Honoured One spoke a simile for this: It is just as if a person had his head severed, he could never be revived again; so too is a bhikṣu: after violating a pārājika dharma, he can never again restore his conduct as a bhikṣu.
