> "Listen, ayye saṃgha! That tirthika named so-and-so now asks the saṃgha for four months of cohabitation; the saṃgha now grants her four months of cohabitation. Whichever of the ayyes consents to the saṃgha granting her four months of cohabitation, let her remain silent; whoever does not consent, let her speak. The saṃgha has consented to grant that tirthika four months of cohabitation. The saṃgha consents, for it is silent: so is this matter maintained." (When she has completed her cohabitation, having pleased the minds of the bhikṣuṇīs, only then may she receive the full precepts in the saṃgha. How does a tirthika fail to please the minds of the bhikṣuṇīs? Her mind still clings to the teachings of tirthikas and householders; she is not close to the bhikṣuṇīs but is close to tirthikas; she does not comply with the bhikṣuṇīs and recites foreign treatises; if she hears someone speak ill of tirthikas, she becomes angry; if she hears someone disparage the teaching of a tirthika master, she also becomes angry; if other tirthikas come and praise good deeds of tirthikas, she rejoices and leaps with joy; if a tirthika master comes and hears praise of tirthika matters, she also rejoices and leaps with joy; if she hears someone speak unrighteous things about the Buddha, the Dharma, or the Saṃgha, she also rejoices and leaps with joy—this is what is meant by a tirthika being unable to please the bhikṣuṇīs. How does a tirthika please the bhikṣuṇīs? It is the exact opposite of the above. This is called a tirthika cohabiting, harmonizing her mind, and pleasing the bhikṣuṇīs.)
