- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [3.115](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1810.3.115)

> Furthermore, a corpse has five foul characteristics: first, impurity; second, foul stench; third, terrifying; fourth, causing fear in people so that evil spirits gain advantage; fifth, a place where savage beasts and non-humans dwell. A person who breaks the precepts has five faults: having impure actions of body, speech, and mind, like the impurity of that corpse; I say this person is also like this. Some have impure actions of body, speech, and mind so that an evil reputation spreads abroad, like the foul stench emitting from that corpse; I say this person is also like this. Having impure actions of body, speech, and mind, all good bhikṣus fear and avoid them, like that corpse inspiring dread in people; I say this person is also like this. Having impure actions of body, speech, and mind, causing good bhikṣus who see them to generate an evil thought, saying: 'How could I come to see such an evil person?' just as a person seeing a corpse gives rise to terror, allowing evil spirits to gain advantage; I say this person is also like this. Those who have impure actions of body, speech, and mind dwell together with unwholesome persons, like that corpse's place being where savage beasts and non-humans dwell together; I say this person is also like this. These are the five faults of a person who breaks the precepts, like that corpse. Breaking the precepts has five faults: harming oneself, being rebuked by the wise, evil fame spreading abroad, giving rise to remorse at the time of death, and falling into evil destinies upon death.
