- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.136](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1815.2.136)

> Commentary: Reciting and upholding them daily, and understanding them clearly, one acts as a teacher. Being indolent and lacking clear understanding is prohibited by this precept. When it says 'this is self-deception as well as deceiving others', \[it means that\] one creates future downfalls for oneself and suffers great deterioration, hence it is called 'self-deception'; conferring false teachings causing futile toil and suffering without benefit, hence it is called 'deceiving others'. The Bodhisattvabhūmi says: 'Falsely displaying deportment is subsumed under a bodhisattva's counterfeit virtues.' Although this is lying, it constitutes acting falsely as a teacher, and thus incurs a duṣkṛta offense.
