> Commentary: Ancient people, in seeking the Dharma, threw their bodies into fire pits; wishing to hear half a gāthā, they suspended their lives over the Snow Mountains. A king's body served as a couch for a rākṣasa, and heavenly garments served as a seat for a jackal. Even though the crown of a deva is exalted, it supported the feet of an animal. Is this not truly because honoring the Dharma comes first? Therefore, showing disrespect and arrogance is prohibited as an offense. Here, 'possessing wisdom' and 'great understanding' refer to worldly matters.
