- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.31](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1818.1.31)

> Explaining in detail from beginning to end is called an extensive treatise. Now, only grasping its pivotal essentials, shaking the collar and lifting the net-rope, is like drawing the tusk-points of a rhinoceros or elephant, or plucking the feathers of a kingfisher. As for "mātṛkā treatise," it is the mātṛkā, meaning treatises explaining the Abhidharma; this is translated as "sphere of cognition." Inquiring into the purport of this treatise, it can generate understanding that benefits oneself and others; thus it is the sphere of cognition that generates understanding.
