- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.26](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1819.1.26)

> These four lines are called the accomplishment of the adornment of water merits. Why did the Buddha originally give rise to this vow? He saw that there are lands where either surging billows, great waves, dregs, and foam terrify people, or congealed ice and frozen floes cause anxiety and distress, leaving them without any feeling of peace and delight facing forward, and with worries and fears of what they might encounter behind them. Seeing this, the Bodhisattva gave rise to the heart of great compassion: 'May it be that when I become a Buddha, all running springs and ponds will match the palaces, various precious flowers will be spread as water ornaments, and gentle breezes will blow softly, causing the lights to reflect in an orderly fashion, opening the spirit and delighting the body, with nothing unpleasing.' Therefore it is said: 'Precious flowers of tens of millions of kinds / Fully cover the ponds, streams, and springs. / A gentle breeze stirs the petals and leaves; / Interweaving lights swirl about.'
