Part Two: Cultivating Mundane Merits (three parts): first, the merit of counteracting evil karma; second, the merit of counteracting and stopping suffering; third, the merit of counteracting and eliminating afflictions. These are precisely the three obstacles: suffering is the obstacle of retribution, and the remaining two are as in the text. Cultivating these countermeasures only stops one from falling into the four destinies and does not yet transcend the three realms; therefore, it is collectively clarified as mundane merits. First, the merit of counteracting evil karma (four parts): first, relying on the fundamental pure precepts; second, the pure precepts of expedient seclusion; third, concluding by demonstrating that the two precepts can generate concentration and wisdom; fourth, separately presenting the five exhortations to cultivate the benefits of the precepts. First, relying on the fundamental pure precepts.
