- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [18.80](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1821.18.80)

> Regarding "Over the three incalculable eons ... each was identical to that": this is the second part, clarifying the names of the buddhas encountered. It can be understood from the text. If one relies on the \*Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa\*, the True Dharma lasts five hundred years. Does this text's 'one thousand years' not contradict that? The explanation is: According to the \*Samantapāsādikā\*, ordaining nuns decreased it by five hundred years, but practicing the Eight Weighty Rules restored five hundred years. That treatise refers to the initial decrease, hence it says five hundred; this treatise relies on the subsequent state, hence it says one thousand. Furthermore, Paramārtha says: 'After the Buddha's nirvāṇa, it has now been one thousand two hundred and sixty-five years.'
