- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.16](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1821.2.16)

> "Herein, the Venerable ... this is accepted" refers to Kumāralāta, rendered here as "Noble Youth," who is an ancestral master of the Sautrāntikas. Within the Sautrāntika school he composed the Dṛṣṭāntamālā, the Mohamālā, the Vyaktaśāstra, and so forth. The Sautrāntika school originally emerged from the Sarvāstivāda; taking the sūtras as valid authority (pramāṇa), they are called Sautrāntika; holding reason/principle as valid authority, they are called Sarvāstivāda. Now the intention of this verse is: that which is called "obstruction" means being obstructed by another so that it cannot arise. When directly taking its own object as cognitive support, how can it be called obstruction? Take, for example, the eye-consciousness wishing to arise toward the place of form, but being obstructed by other sounds and the like so that it is prevented from arising. When obstructed by another, it should be known to possess resistance; when directly apprehending form, it is named non-resistant. This differs from this school \[the Sarvāstivāda\]. The author of the treatise sided with the Sautrāntika, and therefore states "this is accepted." The four lines in the Saṃyuktābhidharmahṛdaya agree in text with the Sautrāntika, but the Sanskrit text is not so; the translator erred. An ancient worthy's interpretation that this verse agrees with the Sarvāstivāda is incorrect.
