### [3.107](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1821.3.107)

> Regarding "It has thus been explained ... because they are to be abandoned": this is the sixth section, the analysis of the three abandonments. If the mind, joy, pleasure, and equanimity are associated with afflictions \[abandoned by\] seeing, they are abandoned by seeing; the remaining sāsrava ones are abandoned by cultivation; if anāsrava, they are not to be abandoned. The faculty of grief, if associated with afflictions \[abandoned by\] seeing, is abandoned by seeing; the remaining sāsrava ones are abandoned by cultivation; because it is not anāsrava, it does not admit of being not to be abandoned. The seven material faculties, life, and pain are solely abandoned by cultivation, because the seven material faculties and the life faculty are undefiled. The faculty of pain, because it does not arise from the six \[defilements\], is not abandoned by seeing; because all \[its instances\] are sāsrava, it is solely abandoned by cultivation; because it is not anāsrava, it does not admit of being not to be abandoned. The five faculties beginning with faith, because they are not defiled, do not admit of abandonment by seeing; because they admit of being sāsrava, they are abandoned by cultivation; because they admit of being anāsrava, they are not to be abandoned. The final three faculties, because they are all anāsrava, are solely not to be abandoned, because faultless phenomena are not to be abandoned. Furthermore, the \*Nyāyānusāra\*, fascicle 9, says: "Is not the noble path also to be abandoned? As the sūtra states: One should know the noble path to be like a raft; even dharmas should be abandoned, how much more non-dharmas! This is not abandoned by the two paths of seeing and cultivation; it is called 'abandonment' because it is relinquished at the stage of entering the nirvāṇa element without remainder of substratum."
