> Regarding "The treatise says: ... non-knowledge, and non-illumination": Delusion (moha) means foolishness (avidyā): obstructing the comprehension of what accords with principle regarding the known object and having no discerning characteristics is called foolishness. Illuminating is called light (vidyā), examining and judging is called knowledge (jñāna), and manifesting clearly is called illumination (darśana); these three are all alternative names for wisdom. Delusion lacks light and so forth, and therefore is called 'non-'; this is the counteractive dharma to non-delusion. Another explanation: The desire, form, and formless realms, in their order, are called ignorance (avidyā) and so forth. Another explanation: Past, present, and future, in their order, are called ignorance and so forth. Another explanation: Obstructing the paths of seeing, cultivation, and the adept (aśaikṣa), in their order, are called ignorance and so forth.
