> Regarding the passage from "Having already relied upon the three realms..." up to "...how many distinct locations are there?": within the "Loka-nirdeśa", first, the world of sentient beings (sattva-loka) is explained; second, the container world (bhājana-loka) is explained. Within the explanation of the world of sentient beings, first, sentient beings' \[modes of existence\] are explained in general; second, their various groupings are distinguished. Within the general explanation of sentient beings, first, the birth of sentient beings is explained; second, the abiding of sentient beings is explained; third, the decease of sentient beings is explained. Within the explanation of the birth of sentient beings, first, the three realms are explained; second, the five destinies (gati); third, the seven abodes of consciousness (vijñāna-sthiti); fourth, the nine abodes of sentient beings (sattvāvāsa); fifth, the four stations of consciousness (vijñāna-sthiti); sixth, the four modes of birth (yoni); seventh, the intermediate state (antarābhava); eighth, dependent origination (pratītyasamutpāda); ninth, the four existences (bhava). Below, this first \[section\] explains the three realms, concluding what came before and introducing the question. At the end of the previous chapter, the various minds were already distinguished based on the three realms; now next, it should be explained: What are the three realms? How many distinct locations are there within each realm?
