- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [13.27](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1822.13.27)

> Treatise: "Since there is exhaustion later, we know there was cessation earlier." This concludes the proof. The Sautrāntika school holds that arising has extraneous causes, but no primary cause; cessation has neither primary nor extraneous causes. The Sarvāstivāda school holds that cessation has a primary cause, but no extraneous cause. The Sammitīya school holds that the cessation of material and other dharmas depends on both primary and extraneous causes, whereas mind, mental factors, flames, sound, and the like perish by virtue of a primary cause and do not depend on extraneous causes. The characteristic of cessation is the primary \[cause\], and the remaining causes are extraneous.
