> \[On the \*Śāstra\*’s:\] “Tradition states that while in samādhi … should be understood as appropriate,” this explains perfection. “Should be understood as appropriate” means that, according to what is appropriate, being able to analyze part by part in this way and contemplate each separately is called the stage of perfection. The \*Nyāyānusāra\* says: “The previous explanation is identical with this treatise. Alternatively, as explained previously regarding the characteristic of the culmination of contemplation, subsequent wholesome roots increase, like water overflowing and flooding across dikes. Some say: Suddenly, an unpleasant characteristic arises, which is of two kinds. What are the two? First, that which can arouse anger; second, that which causes discontent. Here, there is only the characteristic that causes discontent; for if one has not attained mastery over what one has practiced, one generates delight in order to seek perfection; but when one has already attained mastery over what has been practiced, longing ceases, and thus there is no delight.”
