> \[On the\] Śāstra\['s statement\]: "If there were a distinct real entity … because there is a distinct human-nature": From here below is the Sautrāntika objection. Within it are six parts: first, the objection concerning the separate establishment of ordinary-person-nature; second, the objection of immeasurability; third, the objection of uselessness; fourth, the objection concerning generic similarity of insentient things; fifth, the objection that generic similarity lacks generic similarity; sixth, the objection of being identical to non-Buddhists. This is the first objection: since there is the generic similarity of ordinary persons, what is the use of separately establishing ordinary-person-nature? The \*Nyāyānusāra\* explains: 'Is not ordinary-person-nature simply the generic similarity of ordinary persons? This is not correct, because their functions are different. The cause of their mutual resemblance in bodily form, activities, and desires is called generic similarity; that which is contrary to the acquisition of the noble path and is the cause of being an ordinary person is called ordinary-person-nature. When entering the detachment from birth, in regard to multitude-similarity one both abandons and acquires, while in regard to ordinary-person-nature one abandons and does not acquire.'
