論「然此經中至生等別物」，經部述經意也。即有為法本無今有名生，有已還無名滅，相續名住。即此前念後念不同名異，已顯有為之無常相，何用離其所相別有生等？

> On the treatise passage: "However, in this sūtra … distinct real entities such as arising": the Sautrāntika explains the intention of the sūtra. That a conditioned phenomenon, not having existed previously, now exists is called "arising"; that having existed it returns to non-existence is called "cessation"; continuity is called "staying"; and the difference between this preceding thought-moment and the subsequent thought-moment is called "alteration". This already fully reveals the characteristic of impermanence in conditioned phenomena; what need is there for arising and the rest to exist apart from what is characterized?
