> "Cessation through deliberation refers to detachment from bondage" brings forth the substance of cessation through deliberation: cessation through deliberation has detachment from bondage as its nature. "Bondage" means fetters. Fetters are of two kinds: first, bondage of association; second, bondage of the objective sphere. However, these two bondages are explained in the "Chapter on Latent Tendencies," and are not explained at length here. Severing these two bondages and realizing the unconditioned is called cessation through deliberation. "Deliberation" (pratisaṃkhyā) is wisdom, because the four noble truths are discerned through wisdom. "Cessation" (nirodha) is nirvāṇa: non-arising is called cessation; cessation obtained by the power of deliberation is called cessation through deliberation. Just as a cart drawn by an ox is called an ox-cart, omitting the middle word, it is spoken of in this way.
