- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [18.32](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1823.18.32)

釋曰：棄壞恩德田者，由棄恩田、壞德田故，成無間罪。父母恩田，身生本故。佛及羅漢名為德田，謂具諸勝德，及亦能生一切有情勝功德故。壞德所依，故成逆罪。

> Explanation: "Abandoning and destroying the fields of kindness and virtue": because one abandons the field of kindness and destroys the field of virtue, an act of immediate retribution is constituted. Parents are the field of kindness, being the source from which one's body arose. The Buddha and arhats are called fields of virtue, meaning that they are endowed with supreme virtues and are also able to generate supreme merits in all sentient beings. Because one destroys the basis of virtue, an act of immediate retribution is constituted.
