> "In order to prevent the conception of liberation": furthermore, because tīrthikas give rise to the conception of liberation with respect to the upper two realms, the Buddha, in order to prevent this, established the name "existence-greed" to reveal that their object is not true liberation. Herein, its intrinsic body is established with the name "existence"; "intrinsic body" refers to meditative absorption and the body that is its support. Sentient beings there mostly have greed for meditative attainments (absorption) and the supporting body; the absorption and the body are called "existence". Because it arises taking existence as its object, it is called existence-greed; it is the greed of existence, which is a genitive tatpuruṣa compound. By analogy, greed in the desire realm is called desire-greed because it is greed attached to the external sensory objects of the five desires; it is the greed of desire, which is also a genitive tatpuruṣa compound.
