For all who initially cultivate the factors leading to liberation, they attain liberation at the quickest in three lives: that is, in the first life one gives rise to the factors leading to liberation; in the second life one gives rise to the factors leading to penetration; in the third life one is only then able to enter the noble \[path\] and even attain arhatship. For a śrāvaka, it is at the quickest three lives and at the slowest sixty kalpas; for a pratyekabuddha, it is at the quickest four lives and at the slowest one hundred kalpas.
