念住初三身，他心三餘四者，念住分別，初之三通唯身念住，緣色起故。他心智通唯三念住，不知色故，無身念住。所餘宿住及漏盡通四念住攝，謂緣五蘊一切法故。

> Regarding "as for the applications of mindfulness: the first three are the body; knowing another's mind has three, and the remaining have four": distinguishing them by application of mindfulness (smṛtyupasthāna): the first three supernormal knowledges are solely the application of mindfulness to the body, because they arise taking form as their object. The supernormal knowledge of knowing another's mind comprises only three applications of mindfulness; because it does not know form, it lacks the application of mindfulness to the body. The remaining knowledge of past lives and knowledge of the destruction of outflows are subsumed under the four applications of mindfulness, because they take all phenomena of the five aggregates as their objects.
