### [4.42](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1823.4.42)

> Regarding "The unobscured is accepted as having twelve": this refers to the desire\[-realm\] unobscured minds born of maturation and so on. These have twelve mental factors co-arising, namely the ten great ground \[factors\] as well as investigation and scrutiny. The word "accepted" indicates that according to the Sarvāstivāda school, remorse does not extend to the indeterminate; therefore in the unobscured indeterminate mind only twelve are accepted. This differs from the Sautrāntika view that remorse extends to the indeterminate mind; adding remorse to the indeterminate mind yields thirteen, which is not what is accepted here.
