> The commentary explains: "Absence of shame and conscience" presents \[the topics\]. "Not honoring" explains the absence of shame (ahrīkatā): not honoring the worthy and good is called absence of shame. That is, being without respect and veneration, without dread or constraint, and without compliance toward spiritual virtues and virtuous persons, is called absence of shame; this is the direct opponent of reverence. "Virtue" refers to the virtues of morality, concentration, and wisdom. "Virtuous persons" refers to persons endowed with morality, concentration, and wisdom. "Without dread or constraint" means without fear. "Without compliance" means not performing the etiquette of a disciple.
