> Regarding "Existing only in \[the realms of\] desire and form": differentiating by the three realms, such affection and respect exist in the desire and form realms, and are absent in the formless realm. Question: "Are faith and shame not great wholesome ground factors, which exist in the formless realm as well?" Answer: "Affection and respect are of two kinds: taking phenomena as their object, and taking persons (pudgala) as their object. Affection and respect directed toward phenomena exist universally in the three realms. What is intended here is that which takes persons as its object; therefore it exists in desire and form, but is absent in the formless realm. 'Pudgala' is translated here as 'frequently taking destinies', meaning one who repeatedly takes rebirth in the various destinies."
