> "Derived \[matter\] is three kinds for derived": derived matter in relation to derived matter serves merely as three causes: coexistent, homogeneous, and fruition. As for the coexistent cause, it refers to the two karmas of bodily and vocal action that conform to the mind, where the seven branches of unmanifest \[matter\] serve reciprocally as causes. As for the homogeneous cause, all that arises prior serves as a cause for subsequent homogeneous \[matter\]. As for the fruition cause, it refers to bodily and vocal karma being able to bring about the eye and so forth; here, cause and effect are both derived matter.
