> "Sentient beings, namely egg-born and the rest" lists their names: sentient beings have four modes of birth: egg-born (aṇḍaja), womb-born (jarāyuja), moisture-born (saṃsvedaja), and apparitional (upapāduka). Such as peacocks and the like born from eggshells, these are called egg-born; such as cattle, horses, and the like born from the womb, these are called womb-born; such as moths and the like born from moisture, these are called moisture-born; such as the various gods whose sense faculties are fully endowed all at once, appearing suddenly from non-existence, these are called apparitional."
