The treatise says: "If the links of dependent origination are only twelve, then without teaching a result of aging-and-death, cyclic existence would have an end. Without teaching a cause for ignorance, cyclic existence would have a beginning. Or else additional links of dependent origination should be established, and yet further ones beyond those, resulting in the fault of infinite regress (the objection). They should not be established further, yet neither is there the former fault, for herein the World-Honoured One has already revealed \[this\] through implicit meaning. How has it been revealed?
