> The seven golden mountains are: first, Yugaṃdhara, translated here as 'Bearing the Yoke,' because its summit has two ridges; second, Vinataka, translated here as 'Obstacle,' because a deity dwells in it who obstructs good dharmas—another explanation is: there is a deity king with a human body and an elephant head who performs māra deeds and can obstruct practitioners; this mountain resembles that deity's head, hence it is named 'Obstacle and Difficulty'; third, Aśvakarṇa, translated here as 'Horse Ear,' because it resembles a horse's ear; fourth, Sudarśana—su means good, and darśana means sight, so it is the 'Fair-to-See' mountain, because seeing the shape of this mountain, much goodness arises; fifth, Khadiraka, translated here as 'Acacia Wood'—formerly, an asura carried Mount Sumeru with this wood, and the mountain has acacia wood, hence it is named for it; sixth, Īṣādhara, translated here as 'Holding the Axle,' because the mountain peak resembles an axle; seventh, Nimindhara, the name of a fish in the sea, which is not translated here; the mountain peak resembles it, hence it is named for it. This differs in order from the Kośa. The Loutan jing explains three kinds of iron mountains; one should consult that text.
