- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.69](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1828.1.69)

> The Commentary gives three meanings: First, establishing this stage relying on the five groups of consciousness, it is therefore named associated. As spoken in the Vinaya: discourses associated with kings, discourses associated with thieves; second, the mental factors associated with the five consciousnesses are collectively named associated. Although this stage explains many dharmas, because mind and mental factors are supreme, they are stated distinctively; this means being associated through identity of time, basis, object, and activity; third, the meaning of subsumption and belonging: that is, this stage explains the dharmas subsumed by and belonging to the five groups of consciousness—namely essential nature, basis, object, accompaniment, and activity; hence it is named associated.
